Traditionally, the central NY Real Estate “season” starts in the February/ March/April and slows through to the beginning of the school year. For Lake Buyers, the peak has usually been July 4th Weekend. The 2009 Real Estate market season started sluggishly and very late more towards May/June than the earlier Spring. High end lake buyers have been scarce this year and only really started actively searching for lake homes much later than usual, more in the beginning of August. Granted, the area hasn’t had its best summer, in terms of weather, on record but, we believe that many Lake Buyers were also getting their money and confidence in the rise of the stock market. The chart below shows the stock market daily averages from the beginning of 2009 until October 22, 2009, they seem to coincide with our findings in our local Real Estate Market.

FUN FINGER LAKES FACTS:
- The Finger Lakes are a chain of lakes in the west-central section of Upstate New York. There are wineries, charming small towns, gorgeous scenery, world-class restaurants, and great places to take the family.
- The two longest, Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake, are among the deepest in America. Both are close to 40 miles from end to end, but never more than 3.5 miles wide. Cayuga is the longest (38.1 miles). Seneca is the deepest (618 feet), followed by Cayuga (435 feet).
- The Finger Lakes area is New York's largest wine producing region with over 40 wineries and vineyards.
- The area is also known for education, with the largest institution being Cornell University in Ithaca. Its alma mater begins "Far Above Cayuga's Waters", because it is on the hills overlooking the city of Ithaca and the southern end of Cayuga Lake.
|
| Did you know? You can travel by boat from the Finger Lakes to NYC or even Florida via the lock and channel system! |
|
- Cayuga lake real estate is very popular among recreational boaters since the state marina and boat launch is located at the southern end of the lake.
- There are several other private colleges in the area. They include Ithaca College in Ithaca, Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, and Wells College in Aurora, also on Cayuga Lake, to name a few.
- More than 40 state and national parks dot the rolling landscape, with twisting, turning, Middle-Earth gorges and cool woods that run for miles.
